Long Term Care Planning

The Estate Planning, Probate & Elder Law Firm of Larry G. Copenbarger

The need for Long-term Care Planning affects many families, usually in later years. A variety of planning strategies may be implemented to assure that the expenses associated with intensive health care are met.

The Estate Planning, Probate & Elder Law Firm of Larry G. Copenbarger is a one-of-a-kind firm which can effectively deal with appropriate planning to preserve assets for a surviving spouse, or children of a long-term care patient. This can include, but is not limited to, medical and non-medical care for people who suffer from a chronic illness or disability. This type of planning requires very particular expertise and experience in order to preserve the home, investments, bank accounts, and peace of mind for the family.

The use of legal documents to plan for the expenses of a long-term care illness is not to be confused with long-term care insurance, however, insurance may be used to “fill a gap,” while the planning is being set in place.

Long-term care insurance is frequently not cost-effective, and must be in force prior to a negative diagnosis. To determine whether long-term care insurance will pay benefits, the process requires a determination of “activities of daily living” (eating, dressing, bathing, using the bathroom, transferring and continence). Care may be provided at home, in the community, in assisted living or in a skilled health care facility.

Although long-term care is normally associated with those who are advanced in age, it may be required by anyone at any age.

Call our offices today so we can help you and your family navigate the complexities of long-term care.
